The first school of tourism in Spain to become a member of the UNESCO Program for Schools established in 1958, CETA is an active participant helping to achieve the UNESCO goals of world peace and co-operation. Today almost 4000 primary, secondary and university schools around the world form a part of this network developing and working on diverse international projects. CETA participates directly in the project "preservation and protection of world heritage". CETA understands the defence and protection of natural and cultural world heritage to be an important part of our mission and a critical part of the training and preparation of responsible tourism professionals.
Tourism and heritage maintain a symbiotic relationship: adequate protection of our world's heritage is necessary in order to maintain a fundamental dynamic economy based on Tourism.
Nonetheless, tourism is also an activity which can contribute to intercultural sharing and understanding. For this reason, the consideration and incorporation of world heritage in tourism practices goes far beyond recreational needs to become a question of professional ethics as well. At CETA we strive to transmit this idea to our students.
As a participant in the Unesco schools "World Heritage" project in 2002/03, CETA carried out a number of educational activities with the prime motivation of promoting the idea of world heritage as a collective good, testiment to the past and cultural wealth for humanity. These activities consisted in educational and recreational visits to museums and monuments, special seminars and workshops.Research projects completed by our students and worth featuring include Ciara Boter's: Typology Analysis of Tourists to Tarragona in the High and Low Seasons and an Evaluation of the Impact of the UNESCO Declaration" and Glòria Aparici's " Creation of an Exhibition Itinerary of UNESCO World Heritage Declared sites in Spain.
