INAUGURATION OF CETA'S 40th ANNIVERSARY CYCLE OF CONFERENCES: MR. JAUME FONT, GENERAL SUBDIRECTOR OF TOURISM PROGRAMMING (GENERALITAT)
On Thursday March 8th, Mr. Joan Font i Garolera, General Subdirector of Tourism Programming in Generalitat of Catalonia, offered a most interesting conference on Tourism in Catalonia in the past, the actions of the Government planned for future tourism events, and he also explained how the organization that deals with Tourism Programming works. Finally, all attendees were able to ask questions and even discuss very current and relevant topics for future tourism professionals.
On February 3, 2010, Dr Luis de Borja and Mrs. Anne Zanatta were interviewed by Jaume Cardós in the radio programme “Parlem d’empresa” (Let’s talk about business).
During the interview, the main topics of discussion included today’s role of universities and the importance of education in a time of crisis. The discussion led to topics such as new studies and the new Degree in Tourism, the use of modern technologies in the classroom, the student profile, job opportunities overseas, career opportunities in general for tourism students, faculty and the importance of languages nowadays.
The latest book by Dr. Luis de Borja, “El nuevo paradigma de la intermediación turística”, was also reviewed and assessed as fundamental for the changing sector of travel agencies.
RADIO INTERVIEW: EL NUEVO PARADIGMA DE LA INTERMEDIACIÓN TURÍSTICA
Over 40 years of trajectory, CETA has always been a pioneering centre in terms of research and publishing of highly valuable tourism literature.
On the occasion of the latest publication by Dr. Luis de Borja Solé, President of CETA, together with Dr. Joan Miquel Gomis, both authors were interviewed during the Radio program "Viajar es un Placer", presented by Mr. Roman Hereter.
During the interview, the authors discussed “The new paradigm of tourism intermediation” (Editorial Pirámide – 2009) which analyses the deep changes taking place within the tourism field, due to structural and communicative variations that require the redefinition of the role intermediaries play. Written with a strong practical orientation, and together with cases of study, questions and other readings, this book will let the reader go deeper into this very current topic.
INAUGURATION OF CETA CONFERENCES CYCLE FOR THE 2009-2010 COURSE
On October 28th 2009, Mr Joan Antoni Serrano, Vicesindic for Vall d’Aran; Tourism, Transport and Commerce Counselor; President for the Lleida Hotel Federation and CETA former student, opened the Conference and Seminars Cycle at CETA, offering a very current topic of discussion in the context of the international economic crisis.
The conference developed under the following title: “Mountain tourism in the current crisis”, and took place in CETA Conference Room. This event counted on every student’s participation, who also had the opportunity of taking part in the debate that begun after the guest’s speech. During the conference some of the following topics were studied and commented: the current situation of mountain businesses, future previsions, and the importance of specialization, differentiation and seasonality.
During the academic year 2009-2010, CETA will start teaching the Degree in Tourism. This new type of studies is the result of the European effort to unify its education system.
These university studies will have recognition in all of Europe, and will enable the student to acquire a deep knowledge in the fields of Tourism, Leisure and Hotel Management.
CETA CONFERENCES: EXPLORA HOTELS AND ITS INNOVATIVE BUSINESS PERSPECTIVES
On May 11th, 2009, in the context of CETA Conferences Cycle, Mr Gabriel Trivelli, European Business Manager for Explora Hotels, visited our Center.
During the conference, Mr. Trivelli explained the company's unique business philosophy which has been implemented in several Chilean natural reserves (vulcano areas, Patagonia and Easter Island)
Their business idea seeks for the host to be in complete harmony with nature, isolated from urban technology and stress, and surrounded by a relaxing atmosphere in nature's pure comfort.
CETA's students were able to enjoy a virtual walk down the remote areas from the South Pacific, and learn about these new and innovative ways of doing tourism.
Mr. Luis de Borja, President of CETA University College of Tourism and Hotel Management has been interviewed by EVENTS magazines. The interview covers topics such as the current situation of tourism and the possibilities training and higher studies bring. The interview analizes the new masters CETA offers.
CETA OBTAINS THE TOP GRADE TO TEACH THE DEGREE IN TOURISM
In the context of the Affiliated Centres Evaluation Programme; AQU, the Agency for University Quality (Catalonian Government), has highlighted the following characteristics from CETA:

UNESCO CONFERENCE
CETA belongs to the UNESCO Associated Schools’ Network. This is the reason why, in the context of the cycles of conferences offered to students, on April 2nd, 2009, CETA welcomed Mr. Angel Morillas (UNESCO delegate in Barcelona), in its premises.
The main topic dealt with was UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE. Mr Morillas explained CETA’s students the relevance for a country to have areas under this category, and the process undertaken to designate such areas. The conference finished with a photographic presentation depicting some of the most famous World Heritage sites, plus a friendly debate with the students.
CETA offers its faculty continuous and permanent training regarding new technologies and teaching methods, in order to ensure dynamic classes adapted to the current needs our students have.
Our faculty has recently attended a moodle course (moodle is an on-line educational platform); a wikis seminar (in order to increase the use of new technologies in the classroom) and a podcast workshop (so as to introduce the use of videos and audio files in class)
During the morning of the 4th of March, 2009, the 5th Forum of Employement took place in CETA’s premises. It was organized by EAE Business School.
The following companies were present in this event’s edition: Sodexho, Oysho, Cirsa, Viva Aqua Service, Mail Boxes, Human Management Systems, Manpower, Henkel and GE.
Throughout the day, the companies had the chance of introducing themselves to students who were able to give them their CVs and take a closer look to the work and business world.
